» THE TRAIN

🚂The Fianarantsoa-Côte Est (FCE) railway is the train that runs from Madagascar’s highland city of Fianarantsoa to the coastal city of Manakara. It was built between 1926 and 1936 by the French colonial administration as an effort to open the east coast and create a means of transporting agricultural products.

Today, the train acts as a lifeline for local communities that aren’t accessible by road. A lack of upkeep since the 1960s has resulted in the train regularly breaking down, causing delays and even de-railings. Patient travelers looking for an opportunity to see arguably the most scenic parts of Madagascar as well as local life at each stop along the way will find this 12-24++ (yes, you read that right) hour journey unlike anything they’ve experienced before. Plus, you can sample local flavors at each stop.

💸TRAIN PRICE: 4.54 USD/16,000 MGA for 2nd class | 11.35 USD/40,000 MGA for 1st class

🥒ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. People either enjoyed my undeniable charm or enjoyed watching me eat things like coconut worms, and thus Best Ever Food Review Show came to be.

I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer. If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

Don’t forget to subscribe to Best Ever Food Review Show, so we can connect through food and travel and become Bestys!
