We can learn a lot in Japan from Hawaii and vice versa - there are great initiatives in tourism, policy and infrastructure which either support or hinder sustainability. In terms of years of experience in international inbound tourism, catering to diverse groups of visitors while finding ways to preserve culture and quality of life for locals, new branding and education opportunities for visitors as well as discounts and added value for locals (as Hawaii does with Kama'aina rates) are wonderful examples of sustainable destination branding. Although each destination could improve, there are so many inspiring examples to talk about.
